US retail chief to speak at expo

Retail Excellence Ireland is to host its sixth annual expo at Croke Park next month.

Matt Shea, president and CEO of the world's largest retail association, the US-based National Retail Federation, is scheduled to be one of the keynote speakers at the event, along with "retail futurist" Howard Saunders, Ryanair's chief marketing officer Kenny Jacobs, and academic researcher and lecturer David Meade.

The event will focus on areas including the shift to online retailing, combating online fraud and how to turn customers into fans.

Retail Excellence Ireland represents around 1,600 members from across Ireland, the idea of the event is to provide attendees with tips on a diverse range of topics relating to best practice in the retail industry.

The Retail Retreat & Expo will be held in Croke Park on Wednesday May 10.

"The significance of retail to the Irish economy cannot be understated with 282,000 workers employed," said spokeswoman Lorraine Higgins.
