Unemployment levels are dropping at an extremely slow pace

THE unemployment rate fell to 11.2pc in August, new figures from the Central Statistics Office showed.

On a seasonally adjusted basis the Live Register recorded a monthly decrease of 2,900 persons in August 2014, reducing the seasonally adjusted total to 380,100

In unadjusted terms there were 398,325 people signing on the Live Register in August 2014.

This represents an annual decrease of 36,955 (-8.5pc).

The standardised unemployment rate (SUR) in August 2014 was 11.2pc, down from 11.3pc in July 2014.
