Unemployment rate falls to 11.8pc in March - CSO

Many people lack the confidence to take on a new role or are concerned they will lose benefits

THE standardised unemployment rate in March fell to 11.8pc, down from 11.9pc the previous month, new figures from the Central Statistics Office show.

On a seasonally adjusted basis the Live Register total recorded a monthly decrease of 1,800 in March 2014, reducing the seasonally adjusted total to 396,900.

In unadjusted terms there were 391,232 people signing on the Live Register in March 2014.

This represents an annual decrease of 33,856 (-8pc).

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate from the most recent Quarterly National Household Survey (QNHS) was 12.1pc in the fourth quarter of 2013.
