Unemployment rate falls to 11.5pc in July

On a region-by-region basis, the area which has seen the largest increase in overall long-term unemployment is the Midlands and Mid-East regions

THE Live Register recorded a monthly decrease of 3,400 in July 2014, new figures from the Central Statistics Office show.

As a result, the seasonally adjusted total to 382,800 while in unadjusted terms there were 404,515 people signing on the Live Register in July 2014. 

This represents an annual decrease of 37,461, an 8.5pc drop and the standardised unemployment rate (SUR) in July 2014 was 11.5pc, down from 11.6pc in June 2014. 

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate from the most recent Quarterly National Household Survey (QNHS) was 12pc in the first quarter of 2014.
