Two firms promise to create 235 jobs over next three years
SOME 235 jobs were yesterday promised at a major consultancy firm and a bottle recycling plant -- but just 62 will be created this year.
Deloitte announced 200 jobs yesterday at offices in Dublin, Cork and Limerick, while another 35 jobs will be created at a plastic bottle recycling company in Castleblayney, Co Monaghan.
However, just 50 of the Deloitte jobs and 12 of the jobs at recycling firm Shabra Plastics and Packaging will be recruited this year.
Deloitte said it would hire 30 experienced technology consultants and 20 advisory roles immediately, and would fill another 150 graduate positions next year.
Deloitte managing partner Pat Cullen said the job announcement was partly the result of opportunities that arose by offering services to organisations who wanted to make savings.
"We have found that as organisations look to reduce costs through the more efficient use of IT, opportunities to supply services in this area are created," he said.
A total of 30 of the jobs are for technology consultants, including junior and senior Java developers, project managers and cloud computing specialists at its Dublin base.
The other 20 jobs on offer this year are advisory roles in its audit, consulting and enterprise risk services departments, also in Dublin.
From Monday, graduates can apply for 150 positions that will come on stream next year across its Dublin, Cork and Limerick offices.
The jobs will be in all departments, including audit, tax, consulting and corporate finance.
Meanwhile, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation Batt O'Keeffe announced the creation of 35 jobs at a plastic bottle recycling firm in Castleblayney in Monaghan.
Some 12 new workers will be taken on each year for the next three years.
Shabra Plastics and Packaging, based at Bree Industrial Estate, will create the jobs at a new €3.5m sorting plant.
The workers will be recruited in its general operations division, research and development, manufacturing supervision and administration.
Irish-owned Shabra, which employs 49 workers, collects, processes and recycles waste plastic.
The new sorting plant can handle over 40,000 tonnes of mixed plastic bottles each year.
