TODAY FM’s chief executive Willie O’Reilly is leaving the station to rejoin RTE in the newly created position of group commercial director.
Mr O’Reilly has headed up the station since 1999.
He has worked in broadcasting for almost 30 years and was executive producer of The Gerry Ryan Show for ten years.
Mr O’Reilly hit the headlines recently over a decision by Today FM to remove broadcaster and journalist Sam Smyth from the station as presenter of its Sunday business show – a move which he defended.
"We're replacing Sam Smyth with Anton Savage.
“It will be a lifestyle and current affairs show," he recently told the Sunday Independent.
Commenting on the move to RTE he said today: “My own background both at RTE and in the national commercial sector is one which has entailed building the strongest commercial partnerships around consistency and quality in content delivery,”
Noel Curran, director general at RTE, said Mr O’Reilly’s experience in both the private and public sectors will benefit the station.
