The Punt: Let's hope TDs are looking at the big picture

WE love it when politicians look daft in front of the cameras. Remember when George Bush was upstaged by the Turkey in 2001?

Here at home, we all remember then Defence Minister Willie O'Dea posing with a gun and pointing it at a camera in 2005.

Photographs can come back to haunt you.

The Punt hopes that this won't happen with Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore and Jobs Minister Richard Bruton.

Although not quite as, ehm, explosive, as Mr O'Dea's photoshoot, the two ministers stood at a jobs announcement yesterday grinning and holding T-shirts with the slogan across it – 'I help people get jobs'.

Unemployment is falling, and we've heard the Government telling us repeatedly that jobs are being created. But let's hope for the ministers' sake that the unemployment gauge continues to decline

Because if it starts rising, we know what photograph we'll all reach for.
