Surge in new Irish jobs over the past two weeks

Almost 1,030 jobs were announced in the past two weeks, according to new figures. The positions were in the retail, catering and IT sectors nationwide.

Catering

A huge multinational announced the opening of 12 new restaurants, while an Irish meat supplier confirmed their expansion in Cork – bringing a total of 800 catering jobs.

- 700 roles will be created by fast-food giant McDonalds over 3 years, following plans of 12 new restaurants around the country.

As well as the 60 staff to be employed in each restaurant, the company say the plans will also create spin-off employment. Earlier this year, the chain signed a €300m deal with Dawn Meats.

McDonalds Ireland MD, Adrian Crean, said " McDonald's has always been good at creating opportunities for really talented people."

- 100 jobs were created by chilled meat supplier, Kepak, as they expand their facility in Watergrasshill, Co Cork

Retail

The retail sector also saw a jobs boost as more positions are announced in the run up to Christmas.

- 60 positions were confirmed by Kilkenny Group. The indigenous company has recently opened 4 new stores, and will be offering positions in Cork, Meath, Stillorgan and Grafton St. The roles involve sales, retail and administration as well as online work.

“As an Irish company, we are delighted to be creating such levels of employment despite the current retail landscape,” said CEO of the Group, Marian O’Gorman.

- Dita Inc, an optical designer whose clients include Lady GaGa and David Beckham, is expanding operations in its Dublin HQ. 10 new positions will be available.

MD Gina Maria Arcari explained that “Stand out factors in Dublin’s favour were the access to the European Market, the availability of top talent here, the ease of doing business.”

IT

- BestSoft, a web and software development company, are looking for candidates to fill 10 positions which focus on customer management.

James O’Donell, Director, said “We continue to expand and we are creating positions for a range of IT professionals who will join the existing client project teams.”

- A large independent fund administration group, Butterfield Fulcrum is offering 150 jobs in middle office and customer relationship management, as they grow their Dublin HQ.
