Starbucks to open in former Anglo building
COFFEE giant Starbucks is to open in the former Anglo Irish Bank headquarters on St Stephen's Green in Dublin.
A planning application was lodged this summer but it is understood contracts have been exchanged.
As a result, 18 to 21 St Stephen's Green North will be partly transformed from a bank to a coffee shop. It is understood that Starbucks will occupy a portion of the building.
Some of the most disastrous decisions ever taken in the history of the Irish economy were made at the address. The building became a symbol of the downturn -- it was bailed out by taxpayers to the tune of €30bn after becoming one of the biggest lenders to property developers.
At the time of the planning application earlier this year, town planners Tom Phillips & Associates, on behalf of Stephen Court Ltd, said: "The coffee shop will sell pre-prepared food for consumption on and off the premises."
