SPORTSWOMAN Easkey Britton is behind a new Oxfam campaign 'Female Heroes' which encourages Irish people to celebrate the inspirational women in their lives.
Donegal-born Ms Britton, who pioneered surfing for women in Iran, said: "I'm supporting this campaign because I think it's time we tell the stories of the heroes in our lives and be inspired to be the change we want to see in our world. Heroes are everywhere. It's in all of us. Let's celebrate that."
As part of the campaign, pins, cards, and crafts will be on sale in Oxfam shops with the proceeds going to education for women in poorer countries, such as agricultural training and support for women entrepreneurs.
Among the campaign's supporters are former president of Ireland, Mary McAleese, Nobel Peace Prize winner Mairead Corrigan Maguire and campaigner Joanne O'Riordan.
'Female Heroes' coincides with International Women's Day on March 8. See oxfamheroes.org
