Five sizeable developments around the country were this week refused planning permission by Bord Pleanala.

In Dublin, Knightspool Ltd was refused permission for an eight-storey office block in Sandyford Industrial Estate while Cobalt Developments, headed by Eugene Larkin, was refused permission for a motor mall with 1,098 car spaces at Cruiserath and Hollywoodrath, Mulhuddart -- both in Blanchardstown.

In Naas, Rossmore Properties was refused permission for a mixed development with 14 shops and 99 homes as well as a medical centre, pub, pharmacy, takeaway and bookmakers. Rossmore's directors are Straffan-based Lawrence McKenna and his family members, Kathleen, David and Lawrence Jr.

In Thurles, Co Tipperary, Kube Developments was refused permission for 79 homes, five shops and a creche. Kube's directors are Mullingar-based Paul O'Reilly and Finbarr Stuart as well as Kildare man Seamus Dunne. Kube has been involved in a number of housing projects in Laois/Offaly.

In Dingle, Co Kerry, Mark Greally was refused permission for a retail and hotel development at Bridge Street.

Knightspool, whose directors are Thomas and Anthony Connolly, is the latest Sandyford scheme to be refused because the estate's infrastructure was considered inadequate.
