Setanta to cut 15 jobs next month
STRUGGLING sports broadcaster Setanta Sports Ireland is to axe 10pc of its staff by next month, writes Fiona Ellis.
Ireland's only dedicated sports broadcaster, which employs 150 people, is to lose up to 15 workers by the end of June.
The company confirmed yesterday that it entered into a consultation period with staff regarding a restructuring of the company's operations.
The consultation process is expected to take 30 days, after which it is expected that staff from the production team and from back office positions will be made redundant.
It is another blow for the Irish broadcaster, who in July 2009 lost 19 staff from its media department just one month after the UK operations shut , with the loss of some 200 jobs.
A spokesman for the company said they were committed to "working with the staff" to minimise the impact.
