Seeking out opportunities in China

Business opportunities in China are the focus of an event being held at Independent Colleges tomorrow.

The Confucius Institute (CI) at UCD and the Ireland China Association (ICA) will be holding the event entitled 'Maximising Opportunities in China through Education Resources' at Independent Colleges on Dawson Street at 2pm.

The event, scheduled to last three hours, will feature speakers from China-based Irish employers, Chinese professionals and the Chinese Embassy education department on sectors of importance to both countries.

One-to-one advice from Ireland-China experts and networking opportunities with local business people will follow the main speeches.

Since the rise of the Celtic Tiger, Ireland has been a destination of choice for many Chinese students. It is thought that more than 60,000 of them were here at its peak.

According to the ICA, these students offer many experiences and provide an understanding that cannot be matched by their local counterparts.

Their language, culture and background, coupled with their Irish education, would appear to offer a package that companies could benefit greatly from.

Up to now it apparently has been very difficult to connect these two groups but now the ICA, in conjunction with the CI and Independent Colleges, say they have developed a strategy to bring together these compatible groups.

Companies and individuals interested in the event can contact Siobhan McKenna at the Ireland China Association on 01 66122182 or info@irelandchina.org for further details.
