Sammon Group wins contractors' award

Sammon Group walked away with Contractor of the Year at the 2011 Building and Design awards. The Irish Building Project of the Year Winner was the Monks Accommodation Wing at Mount Melleray Abbey, Co Waterford, by DHB Architects.

The contested School & Educational Building Project of the Year category was won by New Engineering Building, NUI Galway. This €40m building was designed by Taylor Architects and RMJM and built by BAM Building. Robin Lee Architecture landed the Architectural Practice of the Year Award.

Tony Cantwell, managing director of CMG, the event organisers, said the awards "differ from other award ceremonies in that they are industry awards as opposed to sector awards and I believe that has been the distinguishing feature of this event as it has grown, year on year, despite the extremely difficult climate."
