Sale of seafood specialist William Carr & Sons confirmed
Sweden's Mondi Seafood Group has confirmed that it has agreed to buy William Carr & Sons.
The award-winning Mayo-based seafood specialist is being sold in a rescue deal after Ulster Bank appointed receiver Kieran Wallace of KPMG to take control of the business on August 1.
Mondi's founder and managing director Erling Charleson said he plans to retain all staff at the new Irish unit. "We are going to continue working in Killala, Co Mayo and all former employees are also to transfer to the new company," he said.
The company employs around 75 people, mostly in Co Mayo, and processes salmon and shellfish for the home and export markets.
