Ryanair mobile phone delay
Friday June 08 2007
RYANAIR'S plans to launch in-flight mobile phones have been set back by four months, as regulatory approval has taken longer than expected.
Speaking to analysts earlier this week, chief executive Michael O'Leary admitted the new system would not be running until November at the earliest, and not July as hoped.
The system has approval from the relevant authorties in Ireland, but a handful of other regions (mainly Nordic countries) have yet to agree. "It's held up by a few months, but we're still very confident that it'll be up and running soon," said a Ryanair spokesman.
He added that regulatory approval was the responsibility of Airbus-owned technology firm, On Air, which is partnering the low-cost carrier's mobile phone effort.
