RTE axes 'showy' property TV series
RTE has reacted to the three-year slump in house prices by axing many of its property TV programmes.
It has axed two shows, Househunters and Househunters In The Sun "because of the changing climate".
Ratings winner Showhouse has been reformatted and renamed My Showhouse. Room To Improve, where an architect remodels viewers' homes, is being recommissioned but with a greater focus on recessionary themes such as revamping a house that won't sell.
"It's less about big scale, it's reflecting that people have smaller budgets," said RTE's Cathriona Edwards. "The days of showy are over, basically."
