RORY McIlroy has launched a new charity, The Rory Foundation.
The foundation has been set up to help children from around the world. Speaking from Dubai, the golfer said his parents had inspired him to set the charity up.
"Having support from my family gave me the opportunity to chase my dreams.
"But I know that every child is not so fortunate. My aim is that The Rory Foundation will support children's charities, big and small, around the world, that try to give kids that helping hand," he said.
The 6 Bags Project is the first fundraiser for the foundation. For each of the first six tournaments McIlroy plays in for the first four months of 2013, his golf bag will carry the name of a children's charity.
During the tournament, the bag will be auctioned on www.roryfoundation.com, with all monies raised going to the featured charity.
News of the charity came as his management company posted strong growth in profits in 2011. Accounts just lodged with the companies office for Horizon Sports Management Ltd show accumulated profits rose by 135pc from €116,720 to €275,217 in the 12 months to the end of December 2011.
