Rise in consumer economic optimism
Tuesday November 03 2009
Consumers are more optimistic about the economic outlook than they have been for a year and a half, a survey has revealed.
Economists admitted they were shocked by the results of the poll and warned they expected confidence to dip again next month.
The KBC Ireland/ESRI Consumer Sentiment Index measures how willing people are to spend cash, based on how they gauge their financial prospects.
Last month showed the mood of the average Irish consumer had brightened, with the rating jumping to its highest level since April 2008.
But the report's authors added: "We are surprised by the scale of the monthly gain and would not be surprised at some correction in the November data."
