O'Doherty owns most of Donegal manufacturing group E&I, one of the north-west's biggest manufacturers, making specialist switching gear and power distribution equipment for the energy industry. It also has a growing business in the US, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia, and turnover has been growing rapidly. E&I enjoys high margins, making pre-tax profits of £15.8m in 2015. Derry City FC chairman O'Doherty, who is based in Dubai, enjoyed the lion's share of a £9.9m (11.5m) dividend payment in 2015, with dividends totalling close to £59m/70m in the past five years.
