Ballinrobe, Co Mayo brothers Padraic (64) and Martin (56) control McHale Engineering, one of the country's biggest specialist farm machinery makers. The company focuses on balers and bale wrappers for hay and straw.

Some 90pc of its products are exported, although a major fire in 2015 hit production. They have also invested in property and joined with the Comer brothers to buy a massive commercial and residential block in Ballsbridge. The site, originally sold for 171m during the boom, was picked up for just over 22m in 2011.
