John Corcoran set up the Paddy Power chain of bookmakers in 1988 along with David Power and Stewart Kenny when they joined their three small shops together. He still owns over one million shares, although he's trimmed his shareholding slightly for “estate planning” purposes in recent years. The stake in Paddy Power Betfair is worth over 100m, although the share price has fallen around 25pc since early 2016. Dublin-based Corcoran also made good money from his time running Stephen Vernon's Green Property in the 1990s.
