Freddie Linnett (68) was once considered to be the second richest woman in Britain after Queen Elizabeth. Her uncles Hughie and Paddy Murphy, came to Great Britain from Armagh in 1945. They left her a 32pc stake in property group Charles Street, which is a huge landlord in the UK. She initially worked for the company as a secretary and tea lady but soon gained a reputation for hard work and moved up the ranks.
Chief executive Hugh and his wife Mary Murphy own around 49.2pc of the shares in the Charles Street (Leicester) holding group with the extended family holding the remainder. The company owns 6m sq ft of property in the UK, which is let out to state and blue-chip tenants, with a rent roll of 50m-plus per year.
