The Roche family dynasty made their money from cement, with the creation of what became CRH in the 1970s. They moved into toll roads and energy after that. Ailesbury Road-based Tom (66) is the biggest shareholder in NTR with a 76pc stake following a buyout of other shareholders.

There's a bit of debt though. His wife Anne is one of the Doyle hotel dynasty and owns 25pc of the €300m Doyle Collection hotel business, as well as sharing in more than €800m of dividends more than the last decade. Son John runs the slick Cocu restaurant on Dublin's Baggot St.
