Wicklow brothers Noel (71), Malcolm (64) and Max (72) McMullan own Maxol, the country's oldest fuel sales and distribution business. The last three years have seen the business concentrate on its petrol station and forecourt operations while paring back involvement in home heating and commercial fuel.

With 100 of its own petrol stations and 130 others operated under the Maxol brand, the firm had revenues of €641m last year, with profits of €3.15m. Based on valuations for rival group Applegreen, we've probably undercooked Maxol's worth in recent years.
