Shane Smith (46) used to be a barman in Dublin's Baggot Inn. Now he owns a mountain in Costa Rica. His family moved from Galway to Canada when he was a kid and Smith built up Vice from a small counter-culture magazine in Montreal to a global media company that all but owns the millennial market.
The business has been valued at close to $2.5bn, and Smith owns a 30pc stake. The journalist - who has been banned from visiting North Korea again - won $1m in Las Vegas at the CES conference two years ago and blew $300,000 on dinner afterwards.
