Ferrari-driving former ESB chairman Quinn (74) is thought to have made close to €200m when Martin Naughton bought out his 26pc stake in Glen Dimplex in 2004. He bought the Chateau de Fieuzal vineyard in Bordeaux in 2001 and also owns part of the Merrion Hotel (and Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud). He bought a number of office blocks in the IFSC with Naughton, flipping two of them recently for a €40m profit.

Dublin-based Quinn is a philanthropist, giving large sums to UCD for its business school, which is named after him. He also bought one of the Beit collection paintings for €2m to prevent it leaving Ireland. It was later gifted to the State.
