Veteran resources tycoon Teeling made good money from an assortment of oil, gas and commodity exploration companies including Petrel, Pan Andean and Minco over the last three decades. But the big score came when he persuaded Jim Beam to buy his Cooley distillery business for €71m in 2011.

It sparked a huge interest in Irish whiskey with new distilleries mushrooming all over the country. He set up a new €25m-valued distillery in Louth, with sons Stephen and Jack ploughing their own money from the Cooley sale into their own whiskey business in Dublin's Liberties.
