Green insulation group Kingspan was set up in the back of a pub in Kingscourt, Co Cavan. Now it's one of the most successful Irish exporters ever. Shares have jumped 20pc in the last year, valuing the 73-year-old chairman Eugene's 17pc stake at €680m.

Kingspan's stock has risen more than tenfold since 2009. Murtagh's son Gene now runs the company, which sponsors Ulster rugby. The Murtaghs own the exclusive Hempel Hotels in London and Amsterdam, as well as fast-growing medical scanning group Faxitron. Despite the enormous wealth, not one but two of Murtagh's sons, and his brother Brendan, have gone bankrupt.
