Glamour couple Bernie (56) and John (56) Gallagher fronted the best deal of the boom. Bernie is one of the heirs to the PV Doyle hotel empire. They sold off most of the assets for more than €1.1bn to developers during the

property madness, clearing debts and leaving themselves with a portfolio of classy hotels, including the Westbury and River Lee. They own 25pc of the business.

The Gallaghers have also returned to the property market, buying up a number of office blocks as well as spending €28m to buy the Bord Gáis Theatre. When he's not making money, John is the lead singer of indie rock band Dakota 66, who have played at the Electric Picnic
