Retail sales hike in July - CSO
THE volume of retail sales increased by 11.6pc in July, compared with June and there was an annual jump of 9.9pc.
Excluding motor sales, the increase was a 0.6pc improvement with the figure up 6.6pc annually.
The biggest increases were experienced in sectors like car sales, furniture and the pub business.
"Following on from the positive employment and earnings trends, it is little surprise the Irish consumer spending recovery is continuing," said Dermot O'Leary, chief economist at Goodbody Stockbrokers.
