George Redmond Fitzpatrick Morris, fourth Baron of Killanin, is better known as Redmond Morris, the Oscar-nominated producer behind some major films and the forthcoming Neil Jordan movie.
Morris grew up in Spiddal, Co Galway, attending school at Gonzaga in Dublin and later the British Catholic public school Ampleforth. He did not fare well academically at Trinity College, but spent a lot of enjoyable time involved in theatre with the Players.
A summer job working on a film put him on his career path. He was a production manager on Gorky Park and on the €200m-grossing Bond movie, For Your Eyes Only. His filmography as a producer includes The Crying Game, Interview With The Vampire, Michael Collins, The Wind that Shakes The Barley and Notes on a Scandal.
Along with Sydney Pollack and Anthony Minghella, Morris shared a Best Picture Oscar nomination in 2008 for producing The Reader.
He is co-producing 'Byzantium', a vampire-themed thriller with a €12m budget directed by Neil Jordan. Due for release later this year, it stars Saoirse Ronan and Gemma Arterton.
Morris sat in the British House of Lords until Tony Blair's government did away with hereditary peerships.
