Range of start-ups to create over 800 new positions
Wednesday March 05 2008
New start-up companies are set to create over 800 new jobs in the next three years, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheal Martin will announce later today.
That is on top of the 600 jobs already created since their inception, which makes 2007 "a record breaking year", according to Enterprise Ireland.
The companies involved cover a wide range of sectors, including food, retail and software and come from all regions of the country.
The minister will attend a showcase in Leopardstown today involving over 70 export focused companies established in 2007 with the support of Enterprise Ireland.
Companies will not only be showcasing their products but will also draw from each of their experiences during the start-up period and will share their knowledge.
Addressing the showcase, Mr Martin will outline the many supports now being provided for start-up companies as well as small- and medium-sized firms.
The announcement of the new jobs follows confirmation last month that Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland supported companies, will create 900 new jobs.
These include a number of specialised smaller businesses such as Seed Capital Firm, Donseed in Tralee, recycling firm Shabra in Castleblayney and several others.
