PUNT: The ultimate insult from voters

IT'S a bleak day for the Taoiseach when voters are more negative about his Government than the dreaded troika.

The majority of people – 59pc – have a negative view of how the Government has dealt with the economic crisis, while 47pc poured cold water on the troika's contribution.

Indeed, the poll for the 'Irish Times' seems to show that people tend to feel more negative than positive about most sectors of society.

Surprisingly, the private sector seems to fare the best, with 39pc having a negative view.

Mr Kenny can at least take some comfort from the fact that the poll was conducted on Monday and Tuesday of last week – a day before the IBRC was done away with, and two days before the deal on the controversial promissory notes was announced.

If only the voters knew about the deal when they were questioned. No doubt they would have been bursting with gratitude.
