A hotel that closed abruptly leaving more than 40 weddings in limbo has been saved after it was bought out of receivership.
The Aherlow House Hotel in Co Tipperary shut its doors earlier this month, costing 25 jobs and leaving 43 couples without a wedding venue.
Now hotelier Adrian Shanagher has bought the hotel as a going concern. Mr Shanagher is set to honour the weddings that have already been booked at the hotel and offer “full credit” against deposits that had already been paid.
The hotel will re-open on March 3.
In a statement, the former operator of the hotel – a company called Auburn Hotels (Aherlow) Ltd – which lost its position when it closed on February 9, said it is now preparing legal action against the receiver over the hotel.
“We originally took on the business as a going concern meaning we had to honour existing bookings and give credit for deposits taken prior to our involvement. The hotel has now been sold on the exact same basis as is the norm in the industry,” it said.
