Perfume is our biggest export to Azerbaijan... after Jedward

Roisin Burke

Right now Ireland's biggest export to Azerbaijan is of course Jedward -- but Ireland also sells more than €3.5m- worth of other stuff to the oil- rich ex-Soviet state -- especially, for some reason, tens of tonnes of perfume.

Figures from the CSO show we export €1.39m or 27 tonnes of "essential oils and perfume materials" to the Eurovision 2012 host country.

After machinery and equipment worth €500,000, the third-biggest Irish export there is dairy produce -- 75 tonnes of it a year, worth €250,000.

Exports were down 25 per cent from €4.85m in 2010 €3.65m to in 2011.
