Over 65pc drive to work on their own

ONE in five Irish workers spends over 90 minutes daily travelling to and from work, according to a new survey by global workplace solutions provider, Regus.

The report also said that 65pc of Irish workers travel alone in their cars to get to work -- more than the international average -- with public transport carrying only 7pc of commuters. The average cost of commuting to work is 3pc of the annual salary, although 14pc of commuters spend between five and 10pc of their incomes travelling to and from work.

Enet boosts state network deal

FIBRE-optic network operator Enet has taken over operational control of the second phase of the state-owned Metropolitan Area Networks. Enet already operates 27 networks around the country and the second phase involves networks around a further 66 towns in Ireland.

Edelman to take over Ryanair's PR

PR agency Edelman has won the PR account for Ryanair in Ireland and the UK. It will replace Murray Consultants, which had handled the airline for 15 years. Ryanair and Murray Consultants announced they were parting ways after being unable to agree to new financial terms for a continuing arrangement. Edelman will take over the account from August 1.

P&G announce Olympic backing

CONSUMER products giant Procter & Gamble has signed up with the International Olympics Committee (IOC) to become the 11th global sponsor of the London 2012 Olympics. It is the second multi-million-dollar marketing deal this month for the IOC, after Dow Chemical signed as a global sponsor two weeks ago.

UK approves carbon car deal

BRITAIN intends to pay up to £5,000 (€6,000) toward the cost of buying a new low-carbon car, despite an austerity drive that had threatened the programme. A total of £43m had been made available for the scheme which will run between January 2011 and March 2012. "We are sending a clear signal that Britain is committed to greening our economy," Transport Secretary Philip Hammond said.
