Optimistic outlook as food and drink exports grow by 12pc in 2011
IRISH food and drink exports hit record levels last year with an increase of 12pc in the value of sales abroad, according to Bord Bia.
The rise brought sales to €9 billion in what it described as an "excellent achievement" by the industry.
Growth in volume accounted for a quarter of last year's rise and the performance was assisted by strong global prices, price inflation in some countries and reduced exchange rate volatility.
Dairy, meat, prepared foods and seafood were the best performing areas.
Bord Bia chairman, Michael Carey, said the industry remains at the heart of the Irish economy and the outlook is positive.
A Bord Bia survey found that 85pc of food and drink exporters see their prospects for 2012 as good or very good.
