Irish plastics and environmental services firm One51 will create 25 new jobs over the next two years as part of an €8m investment in a plastics subsidiary - Protech Plastics - in Cork.

The company's plan is to use the facility to make innovative packaging products for the rapidly growing Irish food industry, leveraging the skills and expertise brought into the business by the recent acquisition of Canadian plastics manufacturer IPL. The initiative will see the numbers employed by Protech increase to 125 from 100.

One51 also said it was doubling the size of its Shanghai plastics-manufacturing facility in order to cater to increased demand, and "ensure that our facilities are appropriately configured for future customer growth".

"Our recent acquisition of IPL Inc has provided us with a considerable product portfolio and competence in the design and manufacture of innovative food grade packaging products," One51 group CEO Alan Walsh said.

"We intend to leverage this knowledge through Protech's new facility and to develop new products to support indigenous Irish food companies."
