Number of jobs being advertised on internet up 5pc during summer

THE number of new jobs being advertised on the internet increased by 5pc over the summer, according to a recruitment website.

The retail, wholesaling, HR, transport, security and production and manufacturing all helped drive the increase.

It was the second consecutive quarter of increasing numbers in job vacancies online, according to IrishJobs.ie

University of Limerick’s Stephen Kinsella, the report’s author, said the number of jobs available was on the increase.

“While the annual picture remains mixed, looking forward with modest 0.5-1pc growth in demand over the remainder of 2013, we expect to see an increase in job availability as we head into the holiday season and Q4 2013,” he said.

Key sectors enjoying growth include:

- Retailing, wholesaling and purchasing – up 22pc

- Customer services and languages - up 9pc

- Transport and security - up 10pc

- Production and manufacturing up 3pc.

Regionally the jobs are coming from Cork (+18pc), Dublin (+7pc) and Limerick (+1pc), with Galway (-2pc), and Waterford (-5 pc) experiencing small drops.
