No dispute as legal eagle Black soars to the top
Emer Gilvarry's stint as managing partner of commercial law firm Mason Hayes & Curran is coming to a close, the Punt hears.
Taking up the baton at one of Ireland's biggest legal houses is the firm's head of litigation Declan Black, who will take up the role in April of next year. Black joined the firm in 1990, becoming a partner eight years later.
Perhaps his elevation is a sign of the times: Black is best known for representing Irish and international business in complex dispute resolution and insolvency cases. There's certainly plenty of both around these days.
It has made corporate litigation, along with taxation and financial services, particular specialities, so Black's elevation is no surprise.
Advising tech firms is another particular area of focus, and its office is conveniently located for that, being in the heart of it all at Dublin's Silicon Docks.
The firm is rapidly catching up on the 'big five' Irish firms, it is Ireland's fastest growing business law firm, with offices in New York and London to boot. It has 325 staff altogether, and 68 partners.
