New exporters chief unveiled
Over at the Irish Exporters' Association (IEA) ex-banker Simon McKeever has been appointed a chief executive of the country's main exporters trade group.
He takes over from long-time chief executive John Whelan.
McKeever (below) is no stranger to trade issues. His most recent job was at the British Embassy in Dublin, where he was involved in the initiative that led to the creation of the new British Irish Chamber of Commerce – a hugely welcome development for everyone involved in trade between the two countries.
The Punt is sure it is no coincidence that McKeever's new appointment comes just ahead of the chamber's annual gala dinner, which will be held tomorrow night in Dublin's Four Seasons Hotel.
Dublin native McKeever has previously worked in international banking with AIB Capital Markets and with Royal Bank of Canada (RBC).
Meanwhile, The Punt expects to hear plenty more from outgoing chief executive John Whelan, who has lectured and published books on international trade.
