New Euro eco tax to cost Ryanair passengers €16m this year, says airline
MICHAEL O’Leary’s Ryanair is to introduce a new 25c levy per passenger on all bookings. This, according to the short-haul airline, it s to cover the costs of a new EU tax brought in at the start of the year.
This eco levy - the Emissions Trading System Tax (ETS) – covers all airlines using EU airports from January 1.
And Ryanair admits it will cost passengers between €16m this year.
The airline, as well as most of its European competitors, were opposed to the introduction of the tax.
They claim it is a stealth tax that will damage traffic, tourism, European competiveness and jobs.
