Fergus Murphy, director of corporate and institutional banking at State-rescued AIB, has said he is leaving the bank at the end of 2015 for family reasons and to seek new opportunities.
Mr Murphy is the former chief executive of EBS, the building society that was merged into AIB after the society was bailed out during the crisis.
He said he had spent “eight years in the trenches”, between his time at AIB and as head of EBS.
His departure comes around 5 months after Bernard Byrne was officially appointed AIB boss.
