Middle classes flock to pound shop Dealz
The economic squeeze has prompted more posh mums to head to the discount retailer Dealz – with more than one in five of those with the highest disposable income now shopping in the store.
About 22 per cent of those shopping in Dealz are among those with the highest disposable incomes in Ireland, compared with 15 per cent when the retailer first launched two years ago, according to a customer analysis by Dealz.
"We're seeing a universal appeal across all socio-economic groups," said Jim McCarthy, chief executive of Dealz. "People with less disposable income are shopping with us – and people with more disposable income are looking for value. We've now become part of the weekly shop." Most of its products are priced at €1.49.
