Manufacturing slumps again in December

MANUFACTURING firms reported a slump in business in December.
The NCB Purchasing managers Index posted a reading 48.6 last month, up slightly from 48.5 the previous month with any figure below 50 a sign of contraction.
According to NCB, uncertainty in the eurozone and weak economic conditions led to the reduction in new orders last month.
But there was some good news for the export sector with orders up slightly in December boosted by the UK.
Some companies also took on new staff to work on new projects.
