Manufacturing activity fell in July for the first time since September last year, the results of a new survey show.
The NCB Purchasing Managers’ Index stood at 48.2, down from 49.8 in June – only figures above 50 show growth in the sector.
While exports showed a little growth, the new orders part of the index recorded 47.9, a bigger fall than June's 48.7.
Costs like oil and commodity prices are hitting firms hard and similar surveys from the US and China show the same trends.
