Manufacturing falls in September on output contraction
Irish manufacturing dropped in September on a contraction in output.
The NCB Purchasing Managers’ Index fell to 47.3 to 49.7 in July – figures below 50 indicate contraction.
The fall was the sharpest since 2009.
According to the figures, new business fell for the fourth successive month while the rate of decline in purchasing was the fastest in two years.
Other figures showed the eurozone’s private sector economic activity also contracted in September, dropping to 48.5 points from 50.7 in August.
