Major development scheme for Dublin city centre get green light
Thursday December 11 2008
The Kenny brothers, Conor and Kevin, have submitted plans for a €200m office and embassy development fronting onto Earlsfort Terrace and Hatch Street, in Dublin 2, close to where their family company, Clancourt, developed Park Place, the head office of Aviva Hibernian insurance company.
Meanwhile, developer Liam Carroll has received the green light for a €24m development at Smithfield, in Dublin 7. Dublin City Council approved plans by Mr Carroll's company Danninger for the 10-storey building at 8-10 Arran Quay Terrace. With a gross floor area of 4,900 sq m (52,700sq ft) it will accommodate a retail section on the ground floor with offices overhead.
The Kennys' planned new Earlsfort Terrace develop-ment is just north of Segrave House on the eastern side of the terrace and will accommodate a gross floor area of 24,385 sq m (262,500sq ft) built over nine storeys and a two-storey basement.
Their father Charles Kenny heads Shoalwater and the Clancourt Group, whose shares are held by Jersey-registered companies. Their most recent development is Park Place on Hatch Street, which incorporates vaults at the former Harcourt Street railway station. Park Place offices had set a near-record rent of over €500 per sq m in 2005.
