Magnier on form as he helps yearling prices gallop ahead
IT is not all doom and gloom out there. Limerick-born financier J P McManus and Tipperary's John Magnier (right) splashed out at Tattersalls Yearling Sale this week for the flagship auction, which sees some of the best horses in the country put up for sale.
Mr Magnier shelled out 1.2 million guineas (€1.4m) for a filly by Derby winner Galileo on Tuesday -- the first time in three years that a filly has been bought at the Newmarket auction for more than €1m.
Magnier was back in the fray on Wednesday, to buy another Galileo filly out of the Darshaan mare Gwynn, which was knocked down for 900,000 guineas.
So, not all doom and gloom in the horse world.
